Additional Medications:

 

Rhogam:

  • This medication is only given by injection. It is usually given as a one-time dose, but may need to be repeated.
  • It is given only if your blood type is Rh negative. Your Rh type is determined during your visit.
  • This medication will be given to protect you and a future pregnancy from a condition that causes blood break down.
  • The dosage and price of the medication vary according to the age of the terminated pregnancy.
  • This medication is charged extra.

Antibiotics:

  • Antibiotics are given for one week after the procedure. They help prevent an infection.
  • All tablets should be finished.
  • Notify us if you have an intolerance or allergy to an antibiotic.
  • Abstain from sex for one month after surgery to let the womb heal and prevent infection.  

Methergine/Etrogtrate tablets:

  • Helps decrease bleeding by contracting the uterus so no blood clots collect inside it.
  • May cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, increased blood pressure, headache, ringing in the ears, chest pain, or shortness of breath.
  • Notify the doctor if you have these symptoms.

Discharge pain relievers:

  • After your procedure, you will be given prescriptions for narcotic pain medication. You may not need them if your cramps are minor.
  • Instead, you may use over the counter pain relievers like Motrin, Nuprin, or Tylenol.
  • Narcotic medications may affect your ability to work, drive and make important decisions. Avoid driving or working at jobs that require your full attention.
